Installing a internal IDE Zip

I have just ordered a Internal IDE Zip drive. Have anyone here followed the www.mpc-tutor.com tutorial on how to intall it? I just want to know if it's difficult to do by yourself.

im going to do it in a couple of days. im trying to find the cables still. It doesnt look to hard, open up your mpc and have a look around in it first.

It's very easy, if you've ever installed a CD burner into a computer it's the sam method. Besides that if you ordered the Akai kit it comes with directions. You could always check the Akai site for how to or do a msn search on how to install a zip drive int the akai mpc2000Xl.

Follow the directions that Tutor has, you can buy an IDE Y power cable that will give you the necessary length for the installation as well as use terminator plugs if you can't find the blocks. Plus, if you are "grimey" use electrical tape.

Yall lost me on the cables tip! ! What cables are yall talking about external cables? Theres only 2 cables and neither of them need to be long. The 2 cables you need should come with the unit. If not there's some ISH in the game. I bought the Akai one when they first put them out. I turned around and gave it to one of my friends because I went and copped an external one after I realized that I would go thru to many 100mb zips being the sample hermit that I am. But yeah it's too simple to hook up. The pieces only fit in the right places. This you can tell just by looking at the connections.

i just bidded on a :

"(1) 7" Y Splitter
(1) 18" 40pin IDE ribbon cable
Good for internal devices such as Hard Drives, ROMs, Zips... etc.
(1) 18" FDD ribbon cable"

if i get this stuff will i need to make my own power plug thing ? and i'm gonna need a terminal block right ?

If you are making your own power cable, you don't need the FDD IDE since the MPC has one in it already, did you say 18", that's rather long, but it will work. I could NOT find terminal blocks anywhere, I hear that Radio Shack has them, terminal wire plugs will do the trick or like I said if you are "grimey" use electrical tape. You can use solder if you are TECHNICAL, be sure not to warp your board or better yet you can remove the wires from MPC and then solder the connections together and then install. Its not hard, the connections are up to your preference.
