Options for data transfer and backup using harddisk

Here’s what I want to do, I’d appreciate it if you could let me know if such things are possible.

I have a PC running win98 and an MPC2000 running version 1.72 with an external CD SCSI. What I want to do is connect the MPC2000 to a harddisk that the computer can also read, this will allow me to back up and transfer files. I know some of you get irate with answers you feel the rest of us newbies should know so here are a few yes, or no questions.

1. Can I use a PC scsi card to let the MPC access the computers IDE harddrive, or will the MPC not see the HDD in the computer because it is not AKAI formatted.

2. Is it possible to use option 1 with a partition on the HDD AKAI formatted.

3. Can I use a PC mounted scsi harddrive (AKAI formatted) connected to the MPC via scsi, if so how will the computer also access this (I take it that HDD’s don’t come with SCSI and IDE outputs).

4. Is it possible to use an external scsi hdd that the computer and MPC can both access. I don’t really see how this differs from 2, but hey worth an ask.

5. Can I use an external IDE harddisk with a scsi converter and remove the converter for the pc to access the drive using IDE when the MPC is disconnected.

I think using a hard disk for "transfers" would qualify as being a mashochist.

Windows has a nice habit destroying the MPC formatted data, and if it does not, then it will only read the first partition. And when it does that, then it mangles the long filenames.


I mount MPC disks in Linux all the time, and I can read/write to all partitions.
