hooking up to a mbox2

how do i hook my mpc2000xl to a mbox2 and get the pro tools to read it?

i think you would need to explain in more detail what you mean by 'read it'

i mean by read it like get the pro tools to record what i do from the mpc

there is this very informative book called a MANUAL that comes with hardware you purchase......

sometimes the manufacturors even put a pdf copy of this MANUAL, as they call it, on their website....

i know i am making a quantum leap by assuming you can read but your question seemed like you had at least a 2nd grade reading level

u can only record in analog or spdif from the mpc2000 with the M-box1 unless u already got a midi interface

with m-box 2 u can sync the mpc to protools through the unit

Do i just hook it up threw the midi in and out in the mbox2 and mpc or do I have to hook some other stuff up?

you have to hook up the midi b/w the mpc and mbox2, and you have to have the stereo outs from the mpc to the mbox so you can record the actual audio signal

I know you've heard people say it 100 times midi does not transfer audio just data

Midi OUT mpc to midi IN mbox2. Midi IN mpc to midi OUT mbox2 (aka "the handshake method"). Stereo mix outs mpc to line input 1 and 2 on mbox2 unless you have an external mixing console and 8 outs.

1. Set Protools preferences to be the master (master means it will be the sync control with whatever is connected to it through the midi channels) and send Midi time code or midi beat clock ( I cant remember what is sends, maybe both, maybe only beat clock) This is the sync language that makes sure that if you do multiple record sends they will all sync up to the correct time.

2. Go to the midi settings of the the MPC and set it to recieve the same midi signal that protools is sending. i.e. MTC (midi time code) or Midi beat clock.

3. Record two tracks(or sounds, I am assuming you only record one sound to a track in MPC) at a time and make sure that the tracks you don't wish to record are muted in the Track Mute section of pro tools.
