Technical questions for the MPC2000xl and the MPC2000
By Tadmen Tue Jan 17, 2006 9:06 pm
I was wondering if I install a CF reader in my MPC 2000XL will I be able to transfer files from the 2000XL to 1000 and vice versa using the CF?

Also would I be able to transfer those files to a PC and keep them as *.snd or *.wav as a backup using a card reader on my PC?

Basically will it be the same format that the PC will be able to read?

Thanks

Should I update to the newest bios 1.20 before the upgrade, or leave it at 1.14, or would it matter at all.

I plan to do the upgrade soon.

Thanks again

Wait with upgrading the os until you have installed your CF drive and made sure it works. Upgrading to os1.20 *COULD* turn an internal zip completely unusable, if on top of that you would fail to install the cf reader then you end up with 2 problems.

What he said

I just installed an internal reader and I'm using 1.14 without problems.

One last question,
Assuming that after the installation card readers work with OS 1.14 and I still would like to upgrade to 1.20 would I then upgrade by loading the *.bin file onto the CF media and by running it from there?

Last thought... Are there any advantages of OS 1.20 over 1.14?

Thanks

Storage medium (Zips, cards, etc) formatted on the MPC will be recognized by your PC now.

So that's the problem I have now when I want to see the files from the zip disk on the PC. It shows as disk unformatted... and I have 1.14 OS.
When I update to OS1.20 will I be able to load the zip disk onto the PC and will it show the MPC created zip disk on my PC? with the *.snd files on it?

Could you clarify it, please.

Will it affect the scsi external zip drives as well? Since there won't be any internal SCSI anymore with the card reader installed inside the MPC2000XL.

You would have to re-format the disk on the MPC first, then, yes, you will be able to open the disk in your PC and see the .SND, .WAV, .ALL etc files. Keep in mind that if you re-format, you lose everything on the disk, so make sure you have it backed up somewhere else first.

Will what affect the internal SCSI drive? What does the internal SCSI have to do with the OS? I don't get this part of the question

Will it affect the zip disks (in the zip drives) connected through the external scsi cable, as there will not be any internal zip drive after I install the card reader.

I think this is a redundand question, but I'd like to be sure.

Thanks

Oh, and one more question. Really important.
If I have a hard drive that I'm using now with 1.14. Will it function the way it does if I upgrade to 1.20. I have sound files on it that I cannot loose!!!
So as long as I don't reformat it, etc. will it still function normally under OS 1.20, as it did inder 1.14, or am I looking for trouble when upgrading.

It should still work. I used my OS V.1.14 zip disks with OS V.1.20 just fine, so I imagine the HD would work the same (doesn't the MPC see the zip as a Harddrive anyway?)
