MPC2000 - creating sample cd-roms?

Greetings all.

I'm trying to locate instructions for making sample cd-roms for an MPC-2000 (the original one, not XL).

I remember there was a website that had the info - it could only be 540Mb, you had to format a hard-drive partition to Akai format... there were like 15 steps you had to go through to burn a cd-rom that the MPC2K would recognize.

unfortunately, now I can't find this info.

does anyone know of a site that can walk me through the process, or can someone tell me here how it's done? I'd like to get away from using ZIP drives and move toward cd-roms.

any info, pointers or links appreciated.

ISO level 1, 8.3 characters..

I've tried a disc of .wav files and the MPC doesn't recognize it.

Seems to be quite a few people on this board with an MPC2000 that have problems burning compatible CDs from their PC. Are there any standard 2000 owners who can burn CDs successfully? XL works fine BTW.

that's what I thought - I don't think the 2000 will recognize .wav files on a standard cd-rom - it's got to have some wacky Akai formatting...

the disc I've been trying to use is a data disc.

I am going chek with Dj Miz and ask him how he does it because he still uses the Mpc 2000 and he makes wav. disk and sells them here in the city so I will ask him and bring it back to the board

i think that the 2k doesn't recognize wav.files when operating with the 1.72 OS which is the last one for the 2k,but i remember someone here that use a previous OS and wav was workin' fine,don't know much.....

I have a friend who's Mpc reads the wav files I think the problems come from trying to load a XL program. It shouldn't be a problem just loading up the wavs individually. Something to do with that backwards compatibility transition. Example, trying to load a 250mb zip disk into a 100mb zip drive.

okay, more details in case this helps:

- I am using the original MPC2K, not an XL.

- OS is 1.50, but somewhere I have 1.70 and 1.72, if they will help. I never upgraded because the stated upgrades never seemed relevant to my needs.

- disc is a data cd-rom with about 70 .wav format samples. these samples, if loaded onto floppies, load into the MPC just fine.

- cd-rom is a NEC external SCSI 8x. I do have one AKAI format sample disc (I think it's from an S3000), which works fine and all files are accessable and loadable from the cd-rom.

- when a cd-rom data disc with wav files is put in the drive, the MPC does not recognize the disc or the data.

any more ideas, keep 'em coming.

thanks! that's the article I was looking for.

now the only drag is that I'm not trying to back up an existing AKAI format drive on cd. do you have any other links about a) how I could format a HDD to AKAI format, and b) how I could copy wav files onto it, so I could image that onto a cd?
