No, the sounds are definitely not the sounds that come with the XL CDROM - that would be pretty weak and also copyright infringement...

All of the (400) sounds are there to be used in the step-by-step example tutorials, and include original drum hits, breaks and multi samples created by myself or Samplecraze and of the same quality as our sample packs.

So for $39.95, you get the equivalent of one of our big samplepacks (RRP $29.95+) and you get a 221 page ebook containing in depth tutorials and tips (which contains around 10,0000000 times more info than a certain DVD mentioned earlier), which in turn will fast track your MPC beat making (especially for beginners and intermediate users).

Of course, you should buy this primarily for the massive amount of knowledge in the ebook - the sounds are just a nice bonus.

Okay, I got the ebook. It's definitely a rip-off at $39.99. Do yourself a favor and go to tweakheadz.com for his free tutorials. They pretty much cover all the same basics as the ebook. There's nothing in Beatmaking On the MPC2000XL that's specific to the XL that cannot be found in the manual, or just by using common sense. Otherwise the techniques laid out here are just generic audio/midi techniques that do not require an MPC.

I picked up the eBook must say it was well worth it. Being that Im still new to the 2000xl I was looking for any extra boost I could get. Ive already spent countless hours on the 2000xl and have been following the manual...this eBook has done a solid job so far clarifying things and allowing me to push foward at a faster pace.

Im coming from a guitar/bass background, so sampling, etc. was all new to me....I guess it all depends on the person using the eBook but for ME it was a necessity.

I agree with you. The ebook would make a fine place to start for the beginner. But even then the price is too high.

the countless hours you save by having these tips and tricks given to you (as opposed to slowly learning them yourself over the years, if at all) is more than worth the price alone.

If you are going to review my ebook, please do so without coming out with a pack of untruths about it not being specific to the XL and just containing generic audio/midi techniques. The latter half of the book is crammed with specific and advanced XL tutorials, the other half is the grounding in how to use the machine itself.

Please also at least try to read the book before coming to the forums of the author and slating it. According to my database, you had the book for less than 30 minutes before posting up here about it - are you telling me you read 221 pages in 30 minutes? You went through, step-by-step all the tutorials in those 221 pages, loading all the sounds, working through all the advice in less than 30 minutes? IF you are to truly benefit from the book, you need to spend many many hours going through the tutorials, there's enough info in there to keep you going for weeks.

If you did manage to complete the whole book in 30 minutes, then you must be a highly advanced user already - remember, this book isn't for advanced users, it's for beginners and intermediates. How many new users know about multisampling on an XL? How many beginners know about timbre recreation? Recreating snare tails? Building GM MIDI kits? Creating artificial decays in sequencers? How to layer drums? Correct use of filtering? Understanding song arrangements? Multisampling?

I could go on and on. Only advanced users will look at my above list and say 'Hmmpf. I know all that already', but the ebook isn't for them and I never expect them to buy it (this is made VERY clear on the product page - it's not in my interest to sell products to the wrong people). Didn't you read the chapter summary on the site? Did you read the product information? Didn't you read the free example tutorials? I make it very clear what is and what isn't in the book - and it's clear that more advanced producers may already know many of the techniques I explain in the book

I've sold 1000s of copies of my book, and this is the first time I've had anyone say it was a waste of money - in fact I don't think anyone has ever emailed me complaining about this book at all. Most people appreciate it's value to them - it helps them quickly learn their machine more intuitively than the manual, it gives them step-by-step tutorials in more advanced XL techniques that I've never seen anywhere else be it on the net, in print or on DVD, plus it gives them over 400 samples to play with and generally helps them become a better producer. All for the price of a few audio cables and a couple of beers.
