ROLAND XV 5050 & MPC2000xl MIDI PROBLEMS

I am having trouble setting different sounds to different tracks.
everything is connected right but it I just need to know how do assign different sounds from the XV to different tracks on the mpc without changing the sound assigned to that track.
example:
Piano on tr1
bass on tr2
strings on tr3 (Thats how i would like the setup
but all the tracks play the Piano instead)

I think i have my midi settings configured wrong and i dont know what to do with the XV settings and the MPC settings and i really dont know how to set up parts on the XV.

Can some please help It would eally be appreciated

try changing the pgm for each track. i dont know if the mpc can change banks though, just 1-127. but yes program change #

Make sure the XV-5050 is setup for multi-timbral operation which would be "performance" mode.

ok i am in perform mode, on the XV part 1 is is the string sound i want to use. now what do i do on the mpc to make part 1 stay that sound for track 1. and how do i make part 2 another sound for track 2 without changing track 1

you have to have the appropriate midi channel settings on the mpc and the xv (the midi channel settings on each machine have to correspond with one another)

you know how you changed the "drum" track to a "midi" (bottom left corner of the main screen) for each track you want to use xv sounds for? you have to use different channels for each different sound/track

for example,

piano on track 1, mpc set to midi channel 1 (and do this on the xv as well, to midi channel 1)
bass on track 2, mpc set to midi channel 2 (xv on midi channel 2)
strings on track 3, mpc on midi channel 3 (xv on midi channel 3)

etc etc...you get the idea

ok i apologize 4 being so clueless but how do i get to these settings on the mpc and what should the xv be on, perform or patch.
