formatting and partitioning a external HD

I HAVE a external seagate 4.2GB HD-4C (SCSI-0) CHAINED WITH A plextor cd-rom (SCSI-1) CONNECTED TO THE mpc2K. I FORMATED THE DRIVE CHOSE PARTS: A-E. tHE PARTITION SIZE = 910M. WHEN I GO TO SAVE OR LOAD (I SAVED TEST PATTERN SUCESSFULLY) IT SHOWS FILE: ROOT IN THE TOP RIGHT CORNER AND FREE SHOWS 888.6M . NOW THAT LOOKS LIKE ONE PARTITION BUT I CANT CHANGE IT. I ONLY SEE "ROOT". NOT THE PARTITION LETTERS LIKE THE GUY AT SCSI FOR SAMPLERS SAID I SHOULD. PLEASE ADVISE HOW TO GET ACCESS TO THE DIFFERENT PARTITIONS OR THE 4.2 GIGS F SPACE!

you should only have to turn the data wheel to change folders/partitions.

I was thinking that also.

Thats funny, I was thinking "turn off the caps lock."

The problem is I dont see the partitions. All I see in load or save is "ROOT" in the top right corner. I only see the partitions when i'm formating the drive. when in load or save screen "ROOT" wont change when I turn the wheel. do I half to change the scsi number or something else. I'm trying to get this straight so I can save from floppy then install card drive. Please advise i'm tired of upgrading I'm ready to take my production to the next level.

Is there no Part: field in your Load screen ?

NO PART SECTION ONLY "ROOT" AND THE WHEEL DOESNT CHANGE IT. DO I HALF TO CREATE THE PARTS? IT ONLY SHOWS THE PARTS IN FORMAT SCREEN

If you click on the "open window" button on the "root" folder in the top right corner, can you open it and see your subfolders?
Normaly, if you can see it, test if you can see your other partition in the same window, using the cursor.

in "ROOT" i SEE LINES TO CREATE SUB FOLDERS UNDER ROOT. WHEN I NAME SUBFOLDERS AND SAVE TO THEM I SEE CHANGE IN THE MEMORY OF THE ROOT BUT STILL NO WAY TO ACCESS OR SEE OTHER PARTITIONS. I COULD NOT EVEN CHANGE NAME OF "ROOT" MAYBEE SOMEONE COULD WALK ME THROUGH IT. I SEE HOW TO CHANGE THE SIZE OF PARTITIONS IN FORMAT BUT I DONT SEE THE LETTERS IN SAVE OR LOAD. Partitioning a drive basically creates "virtual" hard drives from a single drive. In your case you have created 4 seperate "hard drives", but the MPC is only recognizing one. Try this simple test:

Save a file on your current drive, then switch your scsi number on your external drive. Next try to save or load something on the next drive. Remember to turn your wheel o n the MPC so that it will read the proper scsi channel. If you don't see a file here, then you are accessing your next drive with no files currently saved on it. You will have to change your scsi number each time you want to access a different "drive" on your external HD. HTH!!!

I tried that and i saw the same file i saved. any body know what else it could be. i changed the device number on the HD AND CHOSE IT ON THE MPC AND IT WAS THE SAME THING. This is frustrating I dont know if it's the mpc or the drive. I'm going to try taking the cd rom out the chain. Any advice or people who experienced this problem All I see is "ROOT". help a fellow mpcer out im ready to get down to buisness. The man at scsi for samplers was no help. He just said we sell them to mpc owners all the time. I dont want to half to return the hard drive. pLEASE ADVISE!

ANOTHER THING HAS ANY BODY USED AN EXTERNAL HD WILE RUNNING OS 1.2? I'M JUST TAKING SHOTS COULD IT BE THE O.S?

I use an external hd with os 1.20 but I must be honest that I havent gone into my other HD partitions since I'm rocking the cf reader. I'll have to check this tonight when I'm home I'll keep you posted.

Ok, I just came home from Kempo training ran to the lab and did a little check. So when I go into the load screen I select the harddrive under SCSI-0 (my harddisk is on scsi id 0) and underneed this field I see the part field. I can move my cursor to the part field and spinning the datawheel lets me select the other partitions of my harddisk so It is possible to see multiple partitions on my harddisk with os v1.20. Now I formatted my harddisk back in the days using os v1.14. Quite honestly I don't think that has anything to do with it but I just thought I should mention that as well.
