DUMB QUESTION

Take it easy on me i am brand new to the producing world. My question is how do i output a beat that i compose from the 2000xl to a cd. I was thinking about buying a scsi hard drive but i believe the ones that are on scsiforsamplers.com only have a drive for cd rom but I need something to burn my beats onto a cd.

you need to first record yer beat somehow, like into a sound editor. google audacity if you want a free one.

then you burn the resulting wav file to your cd.

there is no direct-to-cd feature on the xl that i know of...i mean not a whole sequence....i dont think the xl has resampling like the new ones do.

if you are new, thats great but man it might take a good long while to really get up to speed.

if you want an all in one unit though, might better sell yer xl and get a 2500. i dont own one, but, correct me if im wrong, it can do just that...burn yer beats to an audio cd. if you are serious about producing though, thats not really a plus because i would think you would want to master yer tracks or at least give them SOME sort of processing beyond the very limited and sketchy capabilities of a sampler.

edit: please dont be afraid to post questions. yea there are a bunch of assholes on the board but they rarely know the answer anyway. the ones who are actually going to give you useful information arent gonna be jumpin down yer throat telling you to search etc. i mean yea, search is good, give it a shot, but dont hesitate to ask. what most people dont realise is that the more questions and answers there are, the better search becomes (IT REALLY SUCKS RIGHT NOW)

joey what did you use to hook your mpc to the pc. thats my biggest obstacle in the way. i always thought i could use a scsi hard drive to connect the mpc to the pc maybe i can but im not sure or should i get a track recorder or is there some other device or cord that will help me connect the mpc to the pc

you basically need to record the AUDIO signal into yer pc...so a soundcard on your pc hooked up to the outputs of the mpc.

learn to love 1/4" to RCA adapters.

Lets get a few things straight:

You WON"T be able to hook up your PC directly to your XL for data (SCSI, USB).
The XL doesn't have a function to mix down a finished beat inside the machine and save it as an audio file.

so:
The only way you are going to get your finished beat into your PC is to record it to the PC through an Audio interface/card or record it to a hardware recording device of some sort that you can transfer to your PC.
Do a search for what cards people are using to get their beats into the PC.
If you have the eight outs card on your XL you might want to look for a card that has 8 ins. There are a lot of topics discussing this pro and con.

The main connections you need are audio cables from your XL to a recording device, either a track recorder as you call it or your PC fitted with a sound card. Once you've got it in the PC use whatever to tidy it up and burn to CD.
It doesn't sound like you have any MIDI devices yet so ignore that for now and work on your beats.

Best suggestion is to research whats out there by reading all of this forum and others, make beats ,figure out what you can afford, make beats, read some more, make beats, ask some informed questions, make beats, buy it, etc.
