Trying to record loops

I'm trying to record loops on my MPC2000XL. I'm reading the manual and have done everything it says to do but when I go to hit REC and OVER DUB nothing happens. All the settings are set up right to start recording but it doesn't record. I can record a regular drum pad performance already. I'm trying new things. Am I doing something wrong or is there a typo in the manual, because I can hit RECORD and PLAY START and it works in loop mode but I'm not sure if this is supposed to be the loop the manual is talking about. Can some one explain this?

Are u trying to overdub more sounds to a pattern u already laid down? If so why not set the number of bars then make sure loop is set to ON and will overdub. Go to a new track while its still overdubbing and add what u need to add.

If u stop the sequencer and u go to a fresh track all u need to do is press record and what u did previously will be there.

Dont record all on one track use a different track for each sound.
