if Hardware:
then id'e say the MPC as a sample based unit is the best choice, which you have. Also the Triton Rack is wicked for drums.
If Software:
then ide say Stylus by Spectrasonics. its a soft synth which has amazing amount of 36,000 drum samples. over 1000 kicks (phat, and excellent for hip / RnB), over 500 Snares/Claps (exellent), over 500 hi hats, shakers, congas, tambs, etc.
each sound can be layered, tweaks and shaped into a completely different sound.
Stylus is probably the best drum synth on the market for RnB and Hip Hop.
its very clean sounding, and can be tweaked to the most grittiest sound too.
i have heard rumors from some UK based studio bods that alot of the US big boys like Neptunes, Dre, etc us Stylus, by resampling the sounds thru thier MPCs and ASR machines.
explains why 50 Cents 'In Da Club' clap sample is identical to the claps in Sylus with reverb removed.
alot of the shakers, cabasas, tri bells, congas and bongos that Neptunes use also ring a bell.
As for the Kicks, each with the low end punch, and have complete control via the Stylus filters for complete shaping. over 1000 kicks...you cannot go wrong.
