mpc2000xl and keyboards

I'm having trouble using a yamaha psr 170 and my mpc. I can record and playback sounds from the keyboard when I use the akai so I know that the mpc has the notes in it. But how do I incorporate that into a beat or put it on a disk when I can't even hear it? It will play back through the psr but not through the speakers from the akai. Does this mean that I always have to have the keyboard with me if I want to play a melody or what?
2nd question: Is it possible to play a sample off the akai through the keyboards. I would appreciate any help on this matter.

To answer your first question you must always have that keyboard around if you want to use the same sounds. However if you're using the GM sounds from your PSR you could use just about anykeyboard or module with GM banks. The difference would only be in sampled quality as they will vary with the different keyboards you may come across.

As for not being able to hear your sounds that would be because 1, the MPC doesn't work with real audio other than when sampling in. Midi is data so it doesn't contain real audio. Also the reason your not hearing it other than from the PSR's speakers is because you're not using amixer. As for your second question you could use your PSR as a midi controller but if you're referring to using it as a sequencer it's not going to happen and even if it were possible your MPC would be your best sequencer option. I have the PSR 540 and truthfully the timing sucks!
