Recording my Tracks

I have a 2000xl, a pc laptop, I just brought a TASCAM US-122 recorder that comes with Cubase LE, and all I am trying to do is transfer my sequences and other sounds to the the pc using cubase so I can burn them onto a CD. I have read the manual so please dont tell me to do so I just need to know if someone has a set up like mine or anyone that'll be able to help me out.

Another question, am I going the right route by trying to use the MIDI dump feature to send a sounds thru the recorder to cubase. I'll selct a snd and press on send and i wouldn't any action take place on my PC

Just had a little read of your interface setup. You cant transfer sounds through the device via midi. Midi just sends things like note on and note off data that would trigger the sounds in an external synth etc.

If you want to record your beats then you can connect the audio outs to the tascam and then record the tracks to audio tracks in your DAW.

IF you havent got the 8 outs then you will have to record one track at a time if you want to b e able to take advantage of the mixing facilities of your daw. ie seperate sounds on seperate tracks gives you the maximum mixing options but will also lead to larger file sizes.

but in a nutshell connect your audio outs to the tascam and use audio tracks to record your tunes.

So with getting the 8-out option i should be good for recording or do I need the SMPTE option also. Can someone show me what they look like and where i can buy them

unless you plan on gettin an interface with more inputs you dont need the 8 outs...

My interface only has two, so what should i get instead

i dont really need 8 to be honest im straight wit 2 i just want to send my sample thru the interface to the pc and the drums i lay on it thats all. When i lay it down on the mpc all i use is two tracks. One for the sample and one for drums, and I was ASSUMING when i send it over to the pc and use cubase to edit to perfection that'll be all i need.

you dont NEED 8, its just convenient...

even if you only use 2 tracks in the mpc you should still track out each sample(kick, snare, hats, etc.) one by one so you can mix the song in your daw....

aight i understand what you say. so what you telling me is get a new interface with more inputs and buy the 8-out option. One more question, is it a necessity to the SMPTE option cuz to my knowledge it is simply for syncing the mp to the pc program.

no smpte is not a necessity, you can sync up your gear with mtc or midi beat clock...

as for buyin a new interface and the 8 outs, thats really just a matter of convenience although if you spend some chip its also a matter of quality...

my bad but one last thing ill probably put some more change and get a new i-face and the 8outs but is there an alternative at all for recording your tracks

if u don't put ALL soun ds on seperate tracks, (like kick, snare, hihat etc.), u don't have need for an 8 out.
But i really recogment putting all sounds on seperate tracks, it's easier working too....

well i dont track out every beat i do but i use my 8 outs on every beat. sometimes i just record to 2 track and call it a night. depends though...

i use my 8 outs so i can get a good mix inside my mixer....at least if i dont track out, i can get it sounding decent before its recorded into my daw you know? but it would definately benefit you to track each instrument out.
