CD ROM

I maybe totally wrong and i am a very starter with the MPC - I got the machine now for 2 weeks and haven' t had much time to look into it.
But there' s one thing I can' t get my head around. Why does this machine come withouh a CD ROM? Most Sound sources you can get on CD, all computer operate with a CD ROM. Getting it with a floppy or ZIP having to replace by card reader because of the outdated formats previously mentioned - all this would not be necessary if it had a CD ROM from the start.
Correct me if I' m wrong and let me know your thoughts.

There is no cd-rom drive.

Get an external scsi cd-rom drive.

Ow and btw, the cdrom will not let you save sounds nor sequences, so you will need to make sure that you have a reliable sotrage medium for your MPC.

I have an external CD ROM I never use it cause how would I save? It's not a burner. Also I like to sample records mostly not CD's, so I save onto zip's, which work fine.

What's this click you speak of? Drive failure? Disk faliure? Is something in my MPC is going to fail?

CD-ROM - stand for READ ONLY memory. There is no saving with a SCSI CD-ROM drive, load only.

Click of death - ZIP drives starts to act very weird and have a clicking sound, ZIP drive failure is RIGHT around the corner..

Better off with a internal card reader for 2kxl.

I had an internal 250mb ZIP on my 2kxl a while back, I always formatted
my ZIPS in PC (Ialso had an internal ZIP in my PC). When I finally installed a card reader in 2kxl, transferring was as simple as drag and drop
from ZIP to USB card reader to card.

Now, no more click of death, no more moving parts to die out, smaller physical shape, more rugged than ZIP disks, I even accidentally washed a cf left in one of my pockets. I waited a few days for it to dry out, loaded just fine.

I don't got an xl but I thought i would add one last thing.
When I got my external zip drive off ebay it was doing that clicking thing, so I opened it up and this little arm which I think draws back the metal on the disk was out of the spot it should have been, so I put it back and closed it up and its worked fine ever since.

That's good to hear. Glad it worked for you cause usually that's something that is just dead..
