Chromatic assignment on 2k Classic

So thanks to lampdog for reply to my post below, I have searched on here and of course found out that Autochromatic is not on the 2000, only the XL, are there any good workarounds for this? is it a case of literally assigning a sound to 8-16 pads an individually tuning each one? any tips appreciated
