flash memory mpc 2000/2000 XL

Can someone please tell me what kind of flash memory this is? The seller told me it's for the mpc 2000 XL but I thought the Xl version was called the "FMX008M" and this one is the FMC-01 or something. Thanks in advance!

It's a Mutec board. They are a German company and they make cheap versions of Akai products...

Yep it looks like it's discontinued, but it is Flash ROM.

Hey thanks! It's for the mpc 2000 classic and I bought the wrong flasrom (needed one for my XL)

They are pretty rare, but every now and then one pops up on ebay or you find a store that sells them. They are very high priced, but its the only way to get your MPC up to 40MB of RAM. The 8MB on the board stay loaded even after power down, so I like using mine to keep real basic drum kits for quick start up and play time.

Reality of it is that 8mb and quick start up time is not worth that price.

Most of the time, especially today. It was more worth its price back when the 2k was new and 32MB was a lot of memory. In a live environment where your power goes out and you have to reload samples quick it can have great advantages. None of the more modern MPCs even have this feature anymore. Flash memory isn't fast enough to pull this off (yet).

Well I got it in my mpc2000 and it's nice in that I don't have to haul my ZIP-drive and its poweradapter back and forth if I only want to make some patterns on the couch. Since the classic 2000 doesn't take any form of built in Flash card reader or the likes, I think it's a nice though costly solution.

The 8 mb flash is indeed usefull for the 2000, since it needs to boot of it. but the 2kxl doesn't need that. so that's why i think it's too much mopney for what i will do with it.

nice eh? 8 mb isn't all that much you see...
