MPC 2000xl Question(don't laugh at me...please)

I'm very new to this and I'm strugg;img everyday with the mpc. The problem I'm having right now is actually pretty sad, but I have to ask. I can't get my drums to play or go in a loop while I try and over dub my samples/chops on it. Here's what happens, I record some drums on the mpc in a loop sequence. I save them and then load up my sample, I trim it up and chop it. Now when I try to play up my drum loop so I can over dub what plays is the sample that I just chopped up. This is preventing me from making any beats. I don't know what I'm doing wrong and I can't figure it out in the manual. Please, someone explain to me step by step on how to do this very basic function.

i don't quite understand your question... are you trying to get your drums to loop properly with a sample?

Loop on in the main menu.

Overdub when recording, each sample needs to be recorded on it's own track.

OK, chop in the trim screen how you want. Then press "Shift & 6 (program), hit the pad you want the sample to go on and turn the wheel till the sample you want plays on that pad. Go back to the main screen to record your sequences with each sound on it's own track. Don't forget to set to "Loop ON" on the main screen (as LD said) and to set how many bars you want it to play for.

Press record and play (or play start) and repeat.
