Are you set up correct?
What you using........For the midi sides of things, an example would be :
Midi/controller Keyboard OUT > Mpc Midi IN
Mpc OUT > Module IN
Audio/Stereo OUTS of module & Mpc > Mixer
On the main screen........For the particular track u wish to record to, Change DRUM1 > MIDI.....Change OFF > 1...2...3 -Device (Or whatever midi channel u want to use) then your str8.
To use the full 16 midi channels seperatly, make sure u got your module in multi mode.
Then, rec at will........
That was just a troubleshooting type answer....If your set up slightly different it may be a little different but thats generally it (In short)
The recording of drum pads u talk about depends on what you got assigned to them (Also the track u wish to record to has to be set to DRUM if you are using samples u have loaded or MIDI if you wish to control a module etc)
