lost all memory on a zip

my mpc 2000xl got turned off while saving, the zip is now un readable and I lost all of my work for the last couple beats. I think I am screwed......any words for me......I am so sad.

Well cheer up b/c u arent the only one this has happened to. I lost some stuff on a floppy disk. The floppy disk just wouldnt even read. Now i save every 5 minutes to three disks so if one fails i have the other.

I had like 5 zip disks all working fine not long ago and I recently tested them... all fuct! I backed up some of it but I am devastated. I even tried to keep the disks away from speakers etc but I guess the proximity was still too close??

All I can say is, keep organised, back up all shi* on PC and most of all; (im still yet to do this) get a CFcard reader and abandon the DISK OF THE DEVIL.

All moving discs WILL break eventually. Even if you don't spill orange juice on them or don't drop them down the stairs or they don't get demagnetized from another device, anything with moving parts is bound to fail. Like Nicole said, everyone learns the data loss lesson and then learns to back up more often. Sucks. Sometimes it is worth running a disk tool that can scan the entire surface of the disk. I've recovered quite a bit off hard drives doing that when its just the FAT thats corrupted.

And definately consider a card reader as they are much less prone to data loss, more durable, smaller, faster, quieter, more space, cheap, easy to find at stores, easy to back up... hmm, can't think of any reason not to.

i got cfcard in my mpc, . but i don't even trust that . i record to CD thru analog before i turn off the mpc. If worst comes to worst i got to do a grimy style job of mastering it.

A few months ago, suddenly all my Syquest 270 MB drives and Jaz drives refused to read any data...
3 years of work to be saved only in my mind.

Get me a 4000!

the same exact thing happened to me. one day they're working and the next them joints all done. not sure what I did wrong, but something happened to that drive and any disk I put in it got corrupted (or whatever).

i read about the same problems over and over with zip drives/disks. i agree wit jacko on that. if thats all you can afford to work with, its cool. but back up your stuff somehow
