Midi controller Question?

I have a midi controller, its not hooked up yet but the cables are on the way....i was wondering can i play sounds that are on my mpc on the keyboard and have each key be a diffrent note? will there be a specific setting that i have to punch in, in order for it to do it that way?

I think the mpc starts at c4 (middle c) on the keyboard. The Mpc is not set to general midi format so you have to switch em around. In the manual it tells you how to change a note #. Tutor also has a .mid file in the multisample or recycle tutorial on www.Mpc-Tutor.com that does the first bank (A) and has them in the right order.
You should just goto radio shack and buy midi cables for six bucks if your in the US

ok, got some cables....so if i want to play a sound from the mpc on my board do i plug: mpc-midi out ---->controller-midi in? then open the midi option on the mpc and jus choose wich outs and then send. help me out i cant quite get it.

DubbleD, U need to do it like this.

Keyboard MIDI Out ->MPC MIDI in (doesn't matter which one)

MPC MIDI Out -> Keyboard MIDI in

You also need to make sure that both units are set to the same MIDI channel. The MPC is set to recieved on all channels as default, so as long as you have a bunch of samples loaded in to the MPC, press some keys and listen.

To change the MIDI channel that the MPC is sending, change DRUM1 to MIDI in the bottom left corner, and tab accross to specif which channel you want the MPC to send.

Hit the pads, and you should hear the keyboard sounds........

geoff, thanks for the advice but i still havent gotten this to work correctly. let my ask the question more simply...how can i play sounds that are loaded to the mpc on my midi controller. i have no sound modules so i wont be able to get sound from the board to the mpc....hopefully this helps. getting this controller to work is fustrating me

just connect MIDI out of keyboard to MIDI in of MPC. That's it - press a key on the keyboard and the MPC sounds will play.

wait, are you saying its not working at all? because when i got my midi controller i was up & running without doing anything.

i think maybe the others havent answered your question. you said that you want it to play your sounds as different notes. theres two ways. one is to take your sound & use the autochomatic assign feature. those wont be "true notes", just your sound pitched +/- 10 on each midi note. the other way is to multi-sample. that will give you "true notes" (or very close) but it can eat memory.

well i can get the sound of a sample on my keyboard but its jus the same exact sound as what the mpc would play. yes, i want my controller to play a diffrent note of the sample with each key. im not the biggest fan of that note variation slider thing. i will check out your other suggestion. good lookin
