so, im saving up for a digi002--i have a 2kxl without the 8 outs.
i was talking to a friend at school last night, and he told me he has the mackie onyx firewire--which acts as a soundcard--similiar to the digi002 rack.
my question is, being that i have nuendo on my comp, would it make more sence for me to go out and buy a mackie onyx, the 8 outs and record into nuendo, or would i be better off buying the digi002, and the 8 outs?

my main concern is money---i dont have any.
if i go the nuendo route, it shouldnt cost more than a G, as opposed to digi002---which is $1200 alone.

im just looking for opinions. i know tht neither p.t. or nuendo is better than the other, altho i have heard a lot of better things about nuendo, im just curious to hear some pros and cons of tracking out thru the onyx mixer via firewire.

thanx in advance.

you can buy a hard disk recorder and record straight into it then transfer the files as wave to your DAW. i use the fostex vf 160ex to track then i tweak with
Live5. you can probably get a good multitrack hd recorder for about $500 (even less if you go the ebay route, or try some of the larger equipment outlets for scatch&dent, open box, and discontinued items). you could also just buy an alesis 24 track hd recorder for about $1200. american musical supply will let you buy them using 5 monthly installments. hope i've helped. one.

basically, im just confused. can i use a firewire mixer as a soundcard?/ instead of buying the digi002 interface?

im pretty sure the onyx will be deteched as a sound card by the DAW your using.

google the mixer and read the reviews on it, or go to the mackie site and look it up, it will tell you what the firewire is for.

if you can use the oynx as a sound card with your DAW software, i would go with it over the digi002 i guess since its cheaper.

peace,

Rob
