does it make sense to buy a mixer when you don't have the 8 out's on the mpc?

imo, not really...but then again, I don't know what your tool shed consists of....

got the :

- mpc2000xl with eb16 board but without the 8 out's
- 2 turntables mk2
- vestax mixer
- pc with firewire port

For tracking purposes. It would give u 8 outs along with your STEREO OUTS meaing you get 10 total outputs. Now u can track out 10 sounds at one time BUT only if u have 10 inputs on your audio interface/soundcard.

man i aint got the 8 outs nor the eb16,
but i have a mackie onyx 1220 with the firewire option.
all my equipment is hooked to the mackie:
the mpc, microkorg, turntables, cd, tape...
plus the mackie is hooked to my pc via firewire

personally i think its a beautiful thing and i wouldn't wanna change my setup for nothing!!

especially if you also like doing things like dj-mixes and other multitracking stuff...

SERIOUSLY, I HAD THIS BEFORE I HAD THE MACKIE AND IT CAUSED ME NOTHING BUT TROUBLE!
I SPENT DAYS TRYING TO GET THIS PIECE OF SHYT TO WORK WITH NO RESULT BUT ME GETTING BANANAS!

I TALKED TO ALL OF THEM MUHFUKKAS SEVERAL TIMES..
THE GUYS AT ALESIS SUPPORT PLUS THE LOCAL ALESIS DEALER..
ALL THEY DID WAS GIVING ME BULLSHYT A.S.S. ANSWERS AND BEATING AROUND THE BUSH.. THEY KNEW VERY WELL THAT THE FIREWIRE OPTION WASN'T WORKING PERFECTLY. IT COST ME ALOTTA NERVES, REALLY!!

THERE ARE PEOPLE WHO SAY IT WORKED FOR THEM BUT ALSO ALOTTA PEEPS WHO MADE THE SAME EXPERIENCE AS I DID...

first of all, thank you randy for your support.

i gave the multimix back and have just received my mackie onyx 1220.
yeah, it costs twice as much as the alesis, but i'm so glad that finally all my problems are gone. really think
it's worth every single penny..

i ain't trying to tell everybody they should give back their multimix, cause some may be able to fix their problems.
but if you're busting your ass like i did and those ignorant crackheads at the alesis support keep giving you **** tips like
they did to me, i guess its time to make a change.

@randy: i truly think you should be working for alesis, cause you were much more helpful than any of these clowns..

congrats to everyone that got his multimix to work fine.

everyone else, do the right thing.

yep i got an alesis multimix 8, had nothing but trouble, only the other week i got a decent Texas instruemtns firewire card and the firewire update microsoft released for SP2, works sweet, but theres still the issues of the unit getting insanely hot.

tanks for your help man. this mackie onyx 1220 looks really nice but do you need to buy the optional firewire card for the mixer to go firewire?or is it already firewire without the optional firewire card?

i just don't get the point of having a mixer without the 8 out's on the mpc. i thought the 8 out's allow you to track out 8 tracks (sounds) at the same time, and each track goes to one channel on the mixer (8 tracks out = 8 channels on the mixer ). is that right? so if you don't have the 8 out's you could just send one track to the mixer? i'm not really getting it. or ist it so, that you can track out 8 tracks after each other onto the 8 channels on the mixer, which basically is the same like with the 8 out's. your just not that quick as with the 8 out's?i'm confused

That's right. Also you can use the 8-out to process different samples with external effects etc. This is useful for live performance as well. If you are only using your mpc for simple tracking to computer, you don't need the extra outs.

yeah unfortunately u need to buy the extra
firewire card in order to use the firewire option.
thats why it costs about double the alesis.
but as i said i really think its worth it.

thats what i'm sayin.. but actually the multimix would be pretty cool..
the only problem was really the firewire. its nice as an analog mixer tho...
