Technical questions for the MPC2000xl and the MPC2000

Recently I saw piece of a tutorial where midi cables were connected to the back of the 2Kxl and at the other end, USB connector - to a computer..... demonstrating how to use the 2Kxl with VST instruments..... I believe the inst. was NI's Kontact.
I didn't realize a midi/usb cable existed.... gotta call my local Guit. Ctr. in am.
I'd like get more info about this app. Does anyone have exp. with controlling vst insts. w/ the 2kxl? I'm a Sonar6 user...... has anyone done this with Sonar? or P-Tools.........
Thanks

It is not so much just a cable, but an actual midi interface for the computer with only one midi bus (whereas most "box" midi interfaces normally have at least 2 ins and 2 outs). These will require you install a driver just like any other interface so that your PC will recognize the MIDI i/o.

Once you have that working, you are simpling setting up a track in the DAW with the midi in from the mpc and then routing that midi to your VSTi. This is more of an operation with your DAW and VSTi rather than the MPC. On the MPC, you just have to assign the tracks you want to send to the right MIDI channels (you have up to 32 to work with).

Mind you you will need 2 midi IN on your daw if you want to be able to react on 32 different midi channels inside your DAW.

Yea.... kind of realizing there's not much difference between this and any other midi interface out there.... it mainly depends on your DAW and how its routed........

Thanks guys
