MPC2000XL and Linux?!

Hello everybody

I'm wondering if anybody of you is using the mpc in connection with linux or can give me some infos, links etc about it. I've just got my zip working very well under linux so i can backup my tracks easily. But a tool for creating and editing pgm files (like the MPC Editor for Windows) would be very nice. Or is there a technical information page about the "creating of pgm" files so i can create a program by myself to fullfill my needs. (and yes i've looked already at a pgm file with an hexeditor but it seems to be an akai internal file format)

I don't think there is a Linux program ready to serve your MPC yet. Either way, you should visit www.sourceforge.net, just to check. At least all of that Linux stuff is free. Maybe the brother, MPC3000 will respond. He is the creator/developer of MPC Editor. If anybody can set you straight, it will be him.

Hi, I'm workin on a patch editor for MPC1000 on Linux(almost done,in version prealfa of course), I'd be glad to add 2000XL but I need some help to do so. If you could get in touch with me, please send me a blank MPC2000XL PGM file and a few PGM files you've done; with the corresponding settings in txt format. I'll do my best, PGM editor for MPC1000 Linux should be ready in a few weeks (or less).

I've scripted a few things in Python under Linux to do some PGM and SND handling, but my GUI programming abilities are horrible. Having a full Linux version would be nice.

I tested the MPCEditor in Linux using Wine and it seemed to work OK, but I did not try it extensively.

I'm a Mac user, but this is good news.
Glad to see this idea bubbling in the Linux community.

Has a lot of good info. on the file format of the MPC2000 but not the MPC2000XL. I'm sure the differences aren't too hard to figure out.

Your GUI programming in Python is horrible? GUI in Python is the easiest thing I have ever seen. I can sit down and in like, 15 minutes crank out a nice gui. It's really not that hard if you use like wxWindows, at least.
