Repeating a sample with out overlay

My question say I sample a piece of a record I like and assign the piece to a pad when I press the pad multiple times how to do I shorten the length of the sample playback so it doesn't overlap the next press of the pad..... Because no matter I have tried so far the pad plays the whole sample instead of just playing to the length of me holding the pad....

go into programs then parameters and hit the pad you want to change and then switch it from POLY to one of the other settings. Then you will have the option of having the sample play only while you hold the pad down or it will play when you tap the pad and it will restart from the top if you hit the pad again rather than doubling.

yeah Im pretty sure it's not Im usually good at these things but Im still getting acclaimed to the MPC..... So far I like the functions I just wish this version was easier to load a beat from the MP to the PC...lol
