Fruity loops and a mpc.... short question

I dont know how to explain it and more clearly.....

My hommie makes a drum pattern on fruity loops... No mpc in reach...... Just a trigger finger, FL 6 and a PC.........


I want to take just the way he did the drums not the sounds he used...Or the way he did it and the sounds..... just the way he put the drums down.....


Now we wanna get that to the mpc, and use the drum samples i have on my mpc..........

And then i can get started on strings and basslines and other things......



It would be better if theres away i can just use my CF card as i wont need to drive around back n forth with my mpc just to get a drum pattern... Or better yet email them to me.........


He has the audiophile and i can tell you the set up we tried yesterday....... I had the mpc in to a keyboard midi in...... The mpc midi out to the interface in..... Yes we could control FL with the keyboard, but thats the set up i usta use when i used reason so thats no big surprise.....


I wish there was a way i can get my homeboy and i on the same page to use the MPC but he swares by FL..... ????? I know right...... But yo hes my partner (no homo) and thats the way we get down on beats..............

Im pretty new to the MPC but Ive been working with MIDI for what seems like forever lol.

From what I have read so far its been understood what your problem is and you have been given the answer for the most part.

Basically in a nutshell, when you export the drum track to a mid file it basically is a list of MIDI notes that your boys FL recorded. Now you cant just load the mid file on your mpc and throw a sound on a random pad and get it to work. You have to figure out what MIDI notes FL recorded and what MIDI notes are assigned to the MPC pads. There are 127 possible notes. You have to assign your sample to the pad that is the right note number.

So if your boy swears by FL then he should be able to figure out which midi notes are being used, then all you gotta do is do some research on what midi notes the MPC assigns to the pads by default and there you go. Since he is using an MPD, his MIDI notes used should stay in more or less the same range every time so you shouldnt have too much trouble figuring out which pads to use on future songs.

Another option would be to assigen a different sound to all 64 pads on your MPC and then play the mid file on the mpc and take notes of which sounds it triggeres to figure out which pads in which banks its using.

OK so maybe this will help you even more.

The MPD pads are assignable in the software that comes with it. See what your boy has the pads set to and then see what pads he used to bang out the drums. The MPC uses notes 35 to 98.

So lets say your boy used midi notes 72, 80 and 82, then you want to use bank C pad 6, bank C pad 14 and bank C pad 16 get it?

Yeah, the midi file is the sequencing data u want. Now you gotta check the note assignments on those drums he used and match your mpc samples to the same midi notes.

ie. his fl kick drum is assigned to midi note 38
you need to match that to the same note number in your mpc with your kick sample.

Yes, u can use your cf card for transfer.
(I have a 2kxl w/ mcd. I formatted my cf's in my pc via fat/fat16. That way I am able to read the cf in pc and mpc2kxl.
Also, you can read and save the midi file from email if he send it to you.

I email triton programs to people all the time, so when they load it their kybd turns into MY kybd. They can see and hear EXACTLY how I made a song/beat.

Figure out in fl the samples midi note assignments and match those to mpc note numbers. Then when you play the midi file fm fl inside the mpc "should" play back with the samples you have inside the mpc. I've done this with triton and mpc a while back, same thing, different machines/software.

Just to Chime in.

You can see what notes are used by FL by going into step edit on the MPC. Use the Next Event button to scroll through the notes in the track.

Make sure to assign the outputs of your track to the MPC as they'll all be assigned to MIDI. (I forgot this once, took me forever to realise!).

We made some progress but are still tryin to get there.....


Just testin it out we made a simple kick and snare drumline..... Exported the midi loaded the drums up on the mpc assigned it to the right note and there we have the problem.........

He recorded the drums both using c05 so now both the kick and snare come out at the sametime (instead of the snare its the 808 we used for the kick).... Aiite simple we'll change it up.... We keep the the kick at c05 and make the snare c04 as the root note on Fruity loops, export it load it up on the mpc and now we have just the kick at c05 and now snare at c04 doesnt show up............


And when we change the root note to c04 on FL and click prepare for midi export the the **** thing changes back to c05!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

interesting thread .. never heard of anyone transferring MIDI from FL to MPC before .. always the other way around because of the MPC vibe i guess .. ..

jswagger once you get the process perfected .. it might be worth makin a tutorial and puttin your name on it ...
