new 2kxl problems (help appreciated)

hey all, just got a mint MCD from ebay. it arrived with the flash memory adapter board knocking around loose inside the unit (!!!). i re-seated it and now i'm testing the box to make sure nothing else got bashed.

i'm a 1k user, so i sorta know what i'm doing. my main concern is with the internal parameter memory. i don't have the 8mb flash card (the expensive one) installed.

the problem i'm having is when i change 2kxl settings (like the "tap average" and step edit "auto-advance" settings), shut the box off, and turn it back on, they are back to their defaults. is this normal? do i need to save an ALL file to get these settings to save? the 1k i'm used to stores these internal settings in it's own memory and i only have to set them once and forget about it. so i'm a little concerned. thanks!

it can auto load files you store in the root dir of your storage media. Im not sure whether these pararamters would be stored in a pgm/aps or an all file. i have an all file that automaticly loads up with my default blank seuqnce, with all midi channels mapped out. makes me work to a similar channel structure every time.

ok, now it's crashing with "error at 35B0:00F2" all the time. maybe something did get bashed. anyone have ideas?

When does it crash with that error?

I was reading this the other day and I was like damn Im happy my mp hasn't done this. I go to make a beat like an hour later and I get that message right when I tryed to load up a sample. Wack. Turned it off and on and it was cool. In the 3 years ive had my mp its only crashed on me like 3 time so its not that bad, but I wonder why this happened.

P.s I see that you said you are getting this message all the time, just once and it was cool after a restart for me.

i toasted my test program and the flash card, initialized the memory, and now it's been running okay for a few days. at the time i was jamming around on a drum program that had a lot of mutes and different sample rates in, not sure if that was the issue or what, but it hasn't come back yet. hm.
