look for an old akai s2000 with 8 outs. they are usually cheaper than the 8 outs if you buy them!!! take it out and then sell the s2000 again. save $$$ !

Nah my dude. Those s2000 outs do not work correclty on MPC 2000/xl models. So that's not gonna help ol boy out. And secondly don't focus on getting the EFX card if you have an external mixer with effects or something like Pro Tools where you can use effects. That EFX card is nice, but the effects on it are outdated to what's out today. My MPC 2000 is maxed except for the flash rom; which is no where to be found and I use Pro Tools to add effects to my drums since I track each sound out of my 8 outs just because I like the plugin effects I have in Pro Tools compared to the EFX in the MPC 2000.
To each is own, but most important focus on mastering the machine to sharpen your skill.
