The new MPC range seem have operating systems that are a hybrid of the rack units and the MPC series, taking the best of both worlds. I've only played on my beige 2000XL and a new MPC 1000 and the 1000 has mute group functions which they missed off the old MPCs but were featured on all rack Akais - a really useful function in my opinion. Also the ability to layer 4 samples per pad/keygroup in 'zones' was taken from the rack Akais.
Does anyone know of any more up-to-date operating systems for the original MPC2000XL? I think the pads on the beige model are superior to the new machines, it's so much easier to get a decent dynamic range when full level is off so I don't want to sell it for a new MPC, but I really want mute groups!
