Technical questions for the MPC2000xl and the MPC2000
By 01zlim Fri Apr 20, 2007 2:14 pm
Hi all..I need some help/advice with my 2000xl/addonics card reader..I bought the "Addonics Internal 7 in 1 Digidrive Card Reader" (http://www.bits.com.au/newbits/ProductD ... AEIDEDMD4B) as specified in the mpc faqs compatibilty list...I have a kodak 8in1 usb reader/writer for the pc, and a Lexar 512mb (smallest I could find) sd card for the transfers..
1st problem....when I format the sd card in MPC editor, it leaves me with some 48 megs on the card...weird..also it doesnt let me transfer .pgms/sounds to the card properly..it keeps on saying that it cant find random sound files..when I format it through XP, its fine and allows me to transfer the saved .pgms/sounds to it no problem...
2nd problem...when I try to load up the files to the MPC, a)its takes a some time while "searching for drive" and b)cannot find drive/flash card...
I connected the flash drive properly and set the jumper to master..
if anyone has this drive or can give me some advice on what is going wrong, I would appreciate it...I am trying some options as I write this but would love some time saving tips...thanx...

You ask a lot of questions, answer mine first; What os are you running on your mpc?

im running OS 1.2...had 1.14 before the card reader, but upgraded from akai's site...

bro its the SD card....only a few peeps have had the SD card work.

seriously, if AKAI hadment for the MCD to use an SD card, wouldnt they have had an SD read not a CF read in the 2000XL MCD.

my advise, dont screw around with OS's and shit, just go grab a small CF card and try that.

Rob

PS- CF was the popular media type at the time of AKAI bringing out the MCD version of the 2000xl, not SD. SD was ment for use in digicam, where there isnt space for the CF card.

ok...switched to FujiFlim 512MB CF...still nothing...i formatted the card in mpc editor (although the actual card doesnt come up just the kodak reader/writer) then when loading in mpc i go to "flash rom" instead of floppy drive...still nothing...nothing to load..as if nothing is on the disk/doesnt see the disk....still dont know whats goin on....

Your problem might be that you're trying to load from "Flash ROM"

I don't have a CF reader installed myself, but the Flash ROM is a ROM upgrade you can get for 2KXL that stores a bunch of samples/sequences (8MB I think?) which you can load automatically on start-up of MPC meaning you don't have to load from an external HD/CF into the RAM.

So, try a different "LOAD" menu - Flash ROM is not what you want. What if you try loading from the "Floppy Drive" menu?

still nothing....i tried loading from "atapi"...it takes some time while the "wait" message is up then i get a "time out error"..plus under "atapi" type i get no disk????nothing on scsi-0 to 7 of course, and.. nothing on f-rom...so im guessing from the previous post it should be loading from atapi...but nothing...tried formatting cf in mpc editor (and i still get a decrease in capacity from 512meg to 20 something capacity on cf after formatting)..dont know...i think i might be missing a simple step that i havent thought of....

go SCSi - all internal

By 01zlim Tue Apr 24, 2007 9:05 am
yea it is internal...thats whats so frustrating....all i did was replace the factory zip drive with this internal card reader/writer (and upgraded to OS 1.2)..and its not like its not compatible, because i checked in the mpc card reader faqs, and its one of the drives that is compatible..damn this drive is giving me problems....i wonder if anyone on this forum has the same problems or if they have the same drive installed...

just swapped the zip back to check whether the connectors are ok and no problems...then put back the addonics and same problem....i emailed akai pro and one of the guys got back to me saying theres only one drive that is compatible which is weird since the mpc card faq says that the addonics is compatible with the 2000xl....if anyone can give me a heads up on this i'd appreciate it...thanx all....

01zlim

Tell me you didn't pay $117 for the reader.

AU$110...why???i'd rather shell out $110 than $2500 for a 2000xl MCD if the drive is compatible (and from the card reader faq is says it is) and not have to deal with zips again...
