Technical questions for the MPC2000xl and the MPC2000

Damn - I bought the ext. CF card drive from scussi4samplers about 6 mnths ago and everything was going sweet - I thought I had put the days of the click of death behind me along with my zip disks.......

Until today when I went to load up a pgm that I had made on my CPU onto my CF card - got a message saying the transfer directory that I made on the CF to get pgms into the 2000XL was corrupted !

I can't access that directory (or the directory for the first beat that I saved on the CF) from the MPC either now. The other directories on the CF card with my beats on them seem to be ok. Just the two oldest directories seem to be dead.

Have any of you guys had any problems with CF cards ?

Hopefully the problem is with the card and not the reader. Tomorow I'll buy more CF cards to confirm that that is the problem.

I'm using a SanDisk Ultra II 1.0 GB card (have been without probs for the last 6 mnths) - anyone had any probs with these or can recommend another brand ?

I'm glad I've been backing up periodically to my PC - those zip drives taught me a hard lesson.

There's no "click of death" on cards cause there are no moving parts, just "death", lol.

Since you already have the whole card backed up go ahead and reformat it fat/fat16 on pc and resave stuff to the card and try to load again.

Yeah thats what I'll do.

You're right it was more like a smack than a click - and the moving part was my hand to my forehead :)

Peace !

How do you format Cf cards to Fat/Fat16 on Mac?

I take no responsibility if your card doesn't work after you do this, but I'm running OSX and I just format my card on the MPC then drop all my directories straight on the card with the computer. Works fine. I'm running 1.2 OS and using 1GB cards BTW.

I got a 2 gig... but the MPC converted it to 1 Gig.... called the good ole folks up at Akai and they confirmed that 1 Gig was as big as they could go. Some people say you can partition them, but i dont know about all that.
