Technical questions for the MPC2000xl and the MPC2000

Hi.

I have a MPC 2000XL and have to organise my programs and sequences in loads of different folders. I get very easily lost and confused as there are so many folders with pgms and seqs in them. The good thing about the zip disk is that you could just put it all on the root drive. Doesnt the mpc let you have only 256 files in one directory or something. This is why i had to split my programs onto so many different folders.

Is there anyway around this?

Has anyone got any advice?

Thanks, Ben

Well,it seems like you caused the main confusion here for yourself :)
Sounds tough, but the good thing is that you can easily make it better with a little bit of organized thinking may I said.
It's simple, just find a way to create folder names that will lead you and guide you through many different programs and projects.
Sure, with 8 characters limit it's a bit tricky, but surely you can figure out some way to do that.
For example, I call my folders without using any vowels and it works ok. Sometimes I find myself looking at some names and try to guess what was I thinking back then and how did I come up with these letters :)
Anyway, that's my tip.

I have so many folders in my drives. Is there anyway to move the folders position. I have say FOLDR1,FOLDR2,FOLDR3, DMACHINE,FOLDR4 etc. It goes on. It would be great to be able to organise my files better. Thanks, Ben

not sure how everyone else does it.. but on my zips and now on my compact flash card (death to zips) .. i just make a new folder in the root for each new project.

For instance on my 512 CF card i have 5 folders in the root.

Extinct
Plague
Purdie
Bella
Drums

and in each folder i have all the Wavs/PGM/SEQ files that pertain to each one. That way i just go to each folder and load up what i need. I think it keeps everything neat...

Folders...HUGE plus for the XL over the classic! This has me debating getting a card reader for my classic versus picking up an XL, even though I know I can still use the card reader if I decide to pick up an XL (or 4000) later on.

Peace,
