QUESTION: COPYING/BACKING UP DISKS

What is the proper procedure?

I want to copy my floppy Pogram disks (Standard Set, Funk Set, Hip Hop Set), that came with my MPC2000.

In the manual, I see instructions on how to specifically copy the System Disk (operating system), is this the same procedure to copy other floppy/zip disk?

If u want to make a backup copy of that disk just save it all to your Computer and then get a new disk and either copy or move it to that disk. Now u have a backup copy. Thats how i do it when need be. But im assuming u have a floppy drive installed in your PC or atleast access to one.

Your original disc needs to be formatted in pc fat/fat16, THEN the pc will read it.

If it is MPC formatted you might be outta luck.

In that case you can still format a new disk on your computer and copy all the files from the original disk to the new disk via your MPC load and save buth that takes longer. If you are running a Unix like (Unix/Linux/BSD/OsX ...) os on your computer then you can still copy one floppy to another no matter what format they have by using the dd function but that is probably not the case.

So if the copy of the floppy is pc formatted, wont I get a disk error when I try to load it into the mpc2000?

I've tried doing what people have mentioned here and keep getting the same error when I try copying the files from my floppies to my computers(pc and mac). Everytime it says error disk is busy,but it's not doing anything. I looked(on the pc) into all the system roots and bios and ect. nothing was tied to it,so I know it's bs.Gives me the same error on my mac aswell. Anybody got any advice?

/\ Cause if you disk(s) gets **** up you shit outta luck.The drive also could mess up the disk/munch it. I guess I'm screwed on the copying area.It makes duplicates of everything on the disk then says "error disk is busy".Just when I look at what the disk has on it is when it duplicates or makes a ghost image.Then when I look up the files on my mpc the files are gone and none of the files are on the computer(again tried with both mac and pc).Thank god I made a duplicate disk prior to trying this out.Do you think you can only do the fat/16 format when transfering from an xl? Cause I'm running a mpc 2000 classic.

I have problems when putting my compact flash card into the mac. My disc gets totally messed up if i put it into the mac. The computer renames all the files and messes it all up so if i put it back into the mpc it doesnt work and all the programs and files have been renamed.

Say there is 400Mb on a disc and i put it into the comp, the comp will see less than that and think that there is 357Mb for example. I want to be able to back my stuff up easily but the only way i can think of doing it is loading all your programs and seq's into the mpc and then saving them to another disc. This is very time consuming but it keeps the disc away from the computer and just keeps it in Akai format.

Does anyone else experience this?

Yes,but just with floppies.Files get renamed and don't load.They say they are on the disk,but wont load up anymore.

thats what i mean. the same thing happens with bigger discs. The files will be renamed and will come up as 'missing' when the program loads. Its wierd and highly frustrasting. Is there no way around this. Do you just have to keep your discs away from computers? Thanks, Ben
