just purchased an mpc2000xl help

what fam of the music world I just started and I'm feeling the site, big ups to all. I am an rapper and I'm not feeling my producer beats no more so I though I would go into creating beats my self. I bought and mpc200xl and I was wondering why don't I here sound coming from the stereo/phone jack. I just purchased and adapter to connect to my headphones an I have no sounds any please help brand new at this. Thanks One

First, let me say...... DAMN! Alright, I just had to get that out. The MPC has no internal sounds, it's a sampler/ sequencer. It should have come with a disk of samples, check the manual for how to load 'em up and start bangin' away. I usually don't tell anyone to read the manual but I think in your case you should definitely take some time to do just that. If something in the manual is confusing you or you can't seem to get something to work just post back and I'm sure everyone will be happy to help but you kind of gotta help yourself first. hey! im new to the mpc2000xl too, i got mine today. ive got like no gear whatsoever. iver ordered the memory upgrade from ebay.. and i should be getting a zip drive soon so i can use my wav samples taht ive got on my pc.

if i bung a set of headphones into the back of the mpc will i be able to hear output? do i need a mixer or anything or should the sound just be output straight?

also, im used to using propellerheads Reason. if i get myself a midi -> gameport connector, would i beable to use the mpc to control the redrum machine?

so far all the production ive done has been purely software based. but my uni course is slowly teaching me about midi control etc etc. so im going to slowly buy more stuff like a midi keyboard. is there any advice you could give for noobs?

Yeah, just plug your headphones into the headphone jack and you're good. As far as controlling Redrum, you can, but sequencing your drums in the MPC is just so much easier, not to mention you won't have to deal with hardware/software conflicts and latency issues.

I'm one of the biggest advocates of trial and error and just jumping in and gettin' your hands on ish but in this particular case I'm gonna have to insist that you at least give the manual a GOOD once over. Trust me, dudes in these forums will be much quicker to help you if it's evident that you at least took some time to learn about the product you bought.

Did you load sounds? The MPC has no internal engine, just sampling only. Look at it as a blank "canvas" and you won't get anything until you put something on it, or IN it as far as the MPC goes. Sign up for the Tutor Newsletter, get a couple of free sounds and there are several sites that have free sounds.. I won't mention them, because I won't break bread at Tutors table unless I am invited.

I have bought at least 3 packs, I like my Mutha-Drums2 the most.

pressing play only works when you loaded sounds to the pads and sequenced them into patterns and/or songs. Read that manual dog, it helps.
