Just picked up a 2xl mcd...

I picked it up around 8 and damn... time just flew by.

This being my first sampler and first piece of hardware im basically scanning the manual (and the boards) right now trying to soak a lot of information in. As far as learning your way around the machine, any good reading material besides the manual?

Second, I'm noticing that the 32 mb card is definetly not enough mem, how much would yall reccomend? brands? and whats the specific term for the type of memory it uses (i'm pretty sure it's compact flash cards, just checkin)? and any reccomendations on the card reader for my computer (Imac g5 2.0)?

If you mean lerning only the mpc itself, then I would recommend this board + the manual of course.

Well, 512 mb is enough for me, but soon I'll be using 1 GB flash cards. It's up to you and how many samples/projects etc. you want to store on one card.
The name is - compact flash card and as far as I know they are the most reliable. As for the brand, I would recommend Kingston. I own 512 mb since june/july last year and had no problems with it.

congrats on the mp. This is a great place for all kinds of information and peoples experinces. The manual pretty much somes up the way around the mp and its functions. youtube and just the internet in general has a bunch of dope videos of people gettin down. Ahh man, I was feeling too cocky and dug myself a little hole.

So I deleted the the stock drums that come with the blue 2xl (via flash card) , to replace them with my own samples. It seems as though I might have done something a little more then just delete the drums.

I noticed that when I try to sample something, it only allows me to sample 10.9 s, and that seemed way too short. Pushed shift+load and the screen read " View: alll files, File: (just a black bar running across it), Device: Atapi, Type: PC and a graphic (HD LOAD MPC).When I scroll with the data wheel, It says I have no F-ROM. I tried formatting and still reads no F-ROM. Whats going on? Why can't I save longer samples?

After searching the board, I didn't really find anything on formatting flash cards with blue 2xl. And I don't have a card reader for my computer or any means to hook mpc up to it.

ehh im getting beat messing trying to figure this thing out. is it possible to do delete integral software?

You probably don't have the F-ROM, cause it's very expensive and I doubt that it comes with new mpc as a standard. The place I know in UK sells it for over 500 GBP...very expensive.

So basically you won;t be able to record longer samples until you put the 32 MB RAM memory into your machine, it's cheap, just make sure that you pick the right one, that matches. Look for details in manual, it says what RAM works.

Maybe it is, but why would you want to do that ?? When you delete it, nothing will work on your machine. Strange question.

So lets say I take a sample... a 10.9 sample. Assign it to a pad. How do I sample again? because right now it's not letting me.

you need to upgrade your memory.

just picked up some ram and installed it, thank god. had the beginner jitters, freaking out over ish.Anyways, I got a few beats down. Nothing super or anything anyone besides myself would want to listen to, but i get a kick out of it. and thats what matters. the xl is a trip though, no more boring afternoons. its really bringing my spirits up. just reading the manual and learning all the terms and the aspects that go into production feel good, you know? something productive.

looking to purchase some monitors (right now I am using 7 dollar computer speakers that I bought from a thift store that are running through the phones jack). I was looking at the alesis MK2's for 150, my instincts are saying spend more money then that... but I don't want to be blowing cash. I'm looking for a means to record into. definetly not interested in learning any new hardware/software, just something so I can get it onto cd, instead of a handheld tape recorder.
