Here are some things you can check. 1 you didn't state if it was a scsi drive or not. 2. if so check to see what the device for a external HD should be set to(its in the manual). Change the Scsi device ID to whatever it says in the manual then it should find the drive.

Since your drive is 18 gigs you have to partition the drive from a - something can't remember(my drive is only 1.3 gig) so I think I something like a - g or something .

hey thanx for input, problem is when i turn wheel in "device" window to select "wait......" comes up before any device options are shown. do you think it's got anything to do with needing a terminator plug? it's all new to me........oh yeah its an 18GB scsi drive..........thanks again

If the harddisk is the only scsi device or te last one in a chain (highest device number) then it needs to be terminated indeed. This is either done via a terminator plug or via a little dipswitch on the back of your device.

well i can't see a dipswitch on the back of the drive so maybe i need a plug. i have a computer buddy looking into so hopefully he can throw some light on it. i suppose i could also return the drive and get a 1GB jaz drive. man i just wanna make music...ugh......thanks again man, any mo infor much appreciated.
cheers

If it's the original mpc2000 and not the XL it's not compatible with drives that big, it needs to be a 1 gig drive I read...

introduce them to each other and leave the room.....lol

j/k

if you are talking about the classic 2000 I think they are not compatible....

ok, so i'll try the 1GB partition. is there any way to tell if the SCSI port has blown??? would a "wait....."message appear and freeze the machine, coz it does this when you turn the wheel on the DEVICE screen, even when there is nothing connected to the SCSI port.

you may have to make the scsi drive spin up. you need check the jumper settings. use google.com to find your scsi drive models jumper settings. thats what i did to get my scsi hd work. you need some little jumpers. the thing is that mpc2000xl cant sent the HD a command to spin up so you need to set the jumpers to tell the drive to do so.
