Technical questions for the MPC2000xl and the MPC2000

Ok, so I got my MPC 2000XL in the mail today (Took a whole week from New Jerz to NY, jeez). The data wheel doesn't work(as advertised). I've done research and I read all up on the Data Encoder I believe it's called, that VST sells for around $8. I just want to make sure this is whats wrong with it, or if anyone knows of any other thing that could be the issue. The jogwheel itself comes off pretty easy, as if, you turn over the MPC, the jog wheel will fall off. theres that little stick that sticks up. I just underneath it is what needs the fix, the data encoder? Please help, thank you.

You need a soldering gun to do this. You have to pull the data encoder from the mpc and cut the wire attached to it cause you have to re-solder it. It's pretty easy jsut have to know how to solder.

Yeah, so thats it? My brother, father, and one of my uncles know how to solder so I got that covered :). Thanks for the response.

And, would you recommend me getting the something 47 card reader, ah I forget the name. But I know of three I think that work well inside the machine. The one scsi4samplers sell, the one from MPCstuff, and the something 47. What would you recommend? Thanks Whit
