Compression question

Whatz goin on i as plannin on buying a compressor...i just want to know how does it work..do i plug my 8 outz from my mpc 2000 into the compressor and then onto my protools???Also if i have pro tools(digi 002) would i need to stil get a compressor???

Pro tools comes with a compressor plug in. Its not gonna pump and breath like hardware or add color like something with a tube, but it will give you that precieved loudness. A harware piece you can use it pre recording, but i record EVERYTHING dry in PT and then re route the lab thru a patch bay for efx and dynamics, this way you can go back and tweak it till you like. Most compressers are stereo or dual mono unless you cop that presonus joint that has the 8 ins and 8 outs.
