Technical questions for the MPC2000xl and the MPC2000
By ert9k Mon Jul 30, 2007 8:03 pm
Can someone tell me is this normal for my mpc or should I get it serviced.

When in sample mode I can turn the rec gain knob down to zero/min with no effect. The audio still comes through pretty loud. I can go from min to half with no effect.

Is this normal for a 1½ year old mpc2000xl.

thanks

Thanks for the reply.

But the source is no where near full blast. I don't know if it's just my machine that does this or what.

I don't think I always need the gain.. sometimes the incoming signal is pretty loud already.

If you don't need the gain don't use it.

Do the samples clip?

Different sound sources have different output levels. . .

No it doesn't clip.
I just wanted the volume coming into the machine to be alot lower.

If audio is coming through Record In, turning the rec gain down doesn't lower the the audio coming in.

Its more of a inconvenience than anything.

I uploading a photo of how much audio in sample mode is coming through.

This is when Rec Gain is down to zero/min.

you just need to turn down the output of your recording source. If its a turntable and mixer/amp it should have an output volume, just adjust this so the loudest parts of the sample are not clipping on the mpc.

Some records can be quite dynamic so you have to keep an eye on the recording voulme so it dont clip. Levels and gain can be quite a complicated process, especially if you have lots of devices in your recording chain, so just try and use your ears.

if your running a shitty phono amp it might just be too loud.

maybe you can't adjust?

wrap your 1/4" in cotton..

general rule is sample as loud as possible, but on my XL that high peak would prolly clip..
