time streching samples

I just went to the biggest music store in vancouver and 2 people working there said you cannot time stretch wav samples in mp3's, only things created by midi .....from what I read thats not true. Can someone please clarify this for me??

its either wav or mp3. not wav in mp3? A wav file is compressed using the mp3 algorythm, and yes you can Timestrech any peice of audio. Go back witha gun and murder those retail fagots.

How well does it work? How long does it take to process? Would it be useful live? For example adjusting something on the fly in a jam with tap tempo??

it doesn't really take that long. you might have to do it a few times to get the desired outcome without gettin a metallic sound so i don't know how affective it would be live

I time stretch usually to match the key of the sound of tha riddim...

What I've been doing is tuning the sound as close or LOWER to the pitch as possible THEN stretch it.

For some reason I think streching UP to tempo is better than DOWN to tempo.

Anyone agree?
