you were right with your first assumption. the mpc does not have the ability to burn on to CDRs. you can still use a SCSI burner to load samples but that function has not been written into the mpc's OS yet. in order for the mpc to do that it needs to know how to communicate with burners and unless there is a miricle of an OS update that will never happen
however, if you are apt to using CD's as a storage or achieving method i highly recommend it. the media is alot cheaper than the average zip disk and has a higher capacity.
the ideal setup is a combination of zip and cdrom. the zip for working projects the cdrom for the finished ones (or for new sample storage).
