i have tried a variety of ide cables, including one with a clamp on it so the catches in the mpc 'hold it in'- the reason i say it like that is the plug really can't go any further into the socket to be honest, any more force and i'm worried i'll snap the motherboard!
the funny thing is the ide connection is definitely there, because when it's plugged in it beeps and takes a quick look at the device (illustrated by the drive light flickering), same as when it's plugged into a PC. when it's not plugged in the reader powers up, nothing more.
i really want to get this sorted! perhaps this model of reader is a little hit and miss? i don't know...
