I think my zip drive may be a dud.
I tried updating the os to 1.20 and my xl still cant find my external zip. This shnit is frustrating as hell.
I am going to try to help you by checking a few things out first (asking a series of questions).
1. Verify and confirm that your zip drive is SCSI. (does it have 2 switches between the ports at the rear of the drive?)
2. Verify and confirm that the switches are set to scsi - 5 and termination - 0.
3. Verify and confirm that your cable is SCSI. (note: both ends of the cable are male. And the 25 pin connects to the left port. And the 50 pin connects to the scsi port at the rear of the MPC2000XL.)
4. Make sure the scsi cable ends are SECURELY fastened. (note: for a good solid connection.)
5. Verify and confirm you are using OS Version 1.14 (for floppy drive and zip drives) for MPC2000XL. I believe OS Version 1.20 is for MPC2000XL MCD.
--------------------------------------------------------------------
1. Make sure all equipment is powered OFF.
2. Power up your scsi zip drive.
3. Insert a working disk.
4. Power up the MPC2000XL. Let it boot up.
5. Do a SHIFT LOAD.
6. Turn the dial to view the zip drive on scsi id 5. (It should show up there)
Question: What are you getting? Any error messages?
Assuming everything is done as mentioned above, and you are still having the same problem, do you have another scsi device (such as a cd-rom drive or external hard drive) that you can attach to see if it is recognized.
If it is not recognized, then there could potentially be a problem with the scsi port.
Hope the above information helps you.
