SMPTE controller?

Okay, so I have the E-MU 1212m with an SMPTE host (as far as I know, I'never used it actually). My 2kxl has an SMPTE in/out but also there is this board, the IB-M20T available. All I wanna know is:

In order to record to Adobe Audition, do I also need the IB board to get everything sync'd correctly, or my soundcard is covering already the clocking issue?

PS Sorry but I can't understand shit about SMPTE. Only thing I know is that this feature can save me tons of effort by syncing everything together (all 8 channels from the 2kxl).

Without optional SMPTE chip inside your mpc, you won't be able to use this option of sync, simply cause mpc won't be able to 'read' the SMPTE signal coming from your soundcard.

I have a SMPTE chip for sale. PM me if interested.

So, the SMPTE in/out on the back of my 2kxl is just sitting there waiting for the chip or do I actually have it installed already (?!)

Unless you or someone else has actually installed the chip, the SMPTE I/Os do nothing.
