High pitched beeping noise error on MPC 2000XL

I've just installed a card reader on my MPC 2000XL which i was told was compatible. I installed it as it came straight out the box without changing the jumper.

And now when i turn the MPC on all the led lights light up green/red and i get a continuous high pitched beeping sound come out the MPC.

Is this a known error message? What does it mean? What can i do about it?

I swapped the data cable around and it stopped beeping.
