time stretch

hello,
I have an 2kxl and when ever i try to use the time stretch at all i notice an immediate loss in the quality of my sample. But when i used to use time stretch on my computer with my 500 i never had this problem(i was just using audacity). Also what is the significance of the preset?

There is a definite loss of quality if you timestretch too much. I usually just pick the preset that best matches the kind of sample. I'm not really sure how much of a difference it really makes though. Timestretching using computer software is usually a lot more advanced than on the mpc. You could just use the computer and save the file as a wav and load it into the 2kxl.

i really need to get a working external zip. i have bought 2 for just this, and both of them have the death click. do the newer mpc's have a better time stretch?

I've only used the 2kxl. I've heard that the 2500 has some more advanced timestretch features. If it was me, I would keep playing with the 2kxl timestrech presets and maybe try doing the work on computer and reloading into the mp before dropping a couple of grand on a new sampler. So what exactly are you trying to do?

the newer units have a good timestretch, very quick and useful. the old units(2kxl,2k) can take up to an hour to timestretch a 2bar stereo waveform, as it was really designed for small one shot samples. better off using the computer or a more powerful sampler.

Wow, I'm not even asking if you had the chance to actually wait so long to timestretch some piece of audio : ) It does NOT sound pretty.
Still - 2500 is out of my reach so far.

Recycle is probably better than the mpc2500 at timestretching and changing bpm. Find a functional zip drive and transfer back and forth as wavs. I'm sure there is plenty of other good software that can do it too. I've just used recycle.
