two synths and a mpc2000- how can i connect them?

hi, i have a problem with the right connection.
from the mpc 2000 i have a midi out to the midi in of synth1 then from the midi thru of synth1 to midi in synth2.

how do i have to connect them to hear the synths while i am recording with the mpc?

please help...

Your setup sounds OK. You could also use each out from the MPC to each of the respective synth's midi inputs.

You'll have to set the synths to the right midi channels, and set your mpc tracks to those same channels. Also remember to set the tracks to 'midi' (not 'drum') mode in the main screen.

You do have the audio outs going to a mixer right? It may sound dumb, but a lot of people don't understand that midi justs transmits data not audio.

i got that korg micro x and the alesis micron synths. i have both used with the computer but now i want to record directly in the mpc. is this possible?

so do i understand you right beatfreq. i know that the midi just transmits data- but shouldnt it be like if i have connected them right that the midi signal which goes back from the mpc to the synthi makes it sound?

i have seen this vid e.g. where a korg micro x is used with a mpc as i searched youtube:

so i think it should be possible use both. but how? still did not work...

Man those two units look good next to each other!

Anyway, to record the MIDI data from the two synths you also need to have their outputs going back to the MPC. The mpc won't register the notes you are playing otherwise. So plug each of the midi outs from the synths back into the mpc. You can use the two ins for this.

what do you mean with outputs back to mpc? can you give me detailed help please with that.

To make it simple I will assume you don't have any other midi devices to connect to your mpc, just the two synths.

Connect each of your synths midi inputs using the two midi outs on your mpc.

Then connect each of yours synths midi outs to your mpc inputs.

it doesn't matter which you connect to which, just make sure you connect

A ---> 1 Alesis (for example)
and
B ---> 2 Korg

on the mpc.

Then plug your synths audio outs to your mixer.

Set both synths to midi channel 1, local control off (search the manuals).

Dial in track 1 on the mpc and set it to MIDI: 1A (This is the channel it will transmit on, plus the physical output it will send the data to)

Set track 2 to MIDI: 1B (channel 1 on out B)

On track 1, play the pads - they should now trigger sounds on the Alesis.

Track 2 should trigger the Korg.

You should now be able to record what you play on the two synths, but as said earlier you are only recording the data (key presses, pitch bend, etc.) not the actual sound. So if you want you can change the sound on the synth after having recorded it and the new sound will play the same notes.

Hope that is clear and I haven't forgotten anything.

even just daisy chain off the one midi port. Mpc midi out A > to micro korg IN > micro korg thru to other synth, then all 3 devices to an individual mixer channel. if you want to record the audio into the mpc, you cannot use the mpc sequencer simeltaneously. so youll hav to either play it by hand, use the synth internal sequence, if it has one. or use the computer.

Someone told me I need a MIDI interface to connect my MPC and keyboard, because when I was connecting them directly it wasn't working for me... is this true?

Also, how come you need to plug your audio out's of the keyboards into a mixer? Can't the keyboard speakers simply play their own individual sounds?

You don't need an interface to use your keyboard with the mpc. But you need to set the mpc tracks to the appropriate channels.

If you have internal speakers then you can hear your keyboard, but what will you record it on?

You have to make sure that you have the output of both synths connected to a mixer (L & R). Also make sure that your midi channels on the first synth are assigned to channels 1-8 and 9-16 turned off, then on the second synth you have 1-8 midi channels off and 9-16 turned on. This should solve your problem. I'm new to this website, but I've setting up midi modules and drum machines for studios for years. Good Luck!
