Technical questions for the MPC2000xl and the MPC2000

I got a cheapo keyboard with midi capabilities that I'm trying to hook up with my mpc2000xl. I want to be able to record the midi keystrokes on my mpc and be able to play em back.

I understand how to physically hook em up. Midi out to midi in; Midi in to midi out. And I know you got to change the the sound source from Drum 1-4 to MIDI. As far as setting the channels thats where I'm getting stuck.

Can anyone break this down for me? I'm not getting the midi notes to show up on the monitor screens.

Also will the playback come out of the keyboard or out of the audio outputs of my mpc or both?

Thanks, I've been stuck on this for a while, and the manual isn't helping.

Try www.tweakheadz.com

But in addition to setting the source to MIDI you have to set the MIDI channel to receive on (pages 50-51 in the 2kXL manual). Playback is from the keyboard. MIDI is data, NOT sound.
