Clicking sound when I try to record???

I keep getting this clicking sound when I try to record and go to Shift 4 (Sample). It says No Digital Signal Carrier?? When it clicks the volume on the level meter goes to the max so I know thats not good. I haven't been recording so as not to blow my speakers or damage my headset or hearing. I have a XL 2000. If anybody can help or knows why it's doing that I'd appreciate the help. It could be something silly. Im a new jack to the MPC.

have u got the right plugs and cords? sounds like u might not have digital coax plugs. theyre like rca jacks, but for digital audio. i ran into a similar problem myself, but then again i'm a new jack too, so i'm probably wrong

From what you write, two things may be happening.

One - 'no signal carrier' means that the source is not sending a digital sync signal which the MPC needs to recognise the bits in the audio stream. Turn sync on at the source.

Two - if the meters blow full up max you probably have a feedback connection, with the input feeding the output and then coming back around again. Turn monitor off in the sampling screen.

As for the clicking sound, you need to describe it more, but getting things synced will probably solve it. And yes, you need proper coax cables.
