i had this reader for close to a year, but never used SD cards on it.

i formatted the two SD cards on FAT and FAT32 but the mpc still doesn't read them.

it reads CF cards no problem, so i'm kind of stuck as to what is the problem.

any help appreciated

try formatting them on the mpc instead of your computer.

all info about that drive states that cf is the most reliable. and although the other ports are offered there are no guarantee's that the media will be compatible. some work and some dont. its trial and error.
if formating in the mpc still wont work then try another brand of media. i have sandisk and kodac brand sd cards and they both work in mine. size plays a part too.

that's the problem, mpc doesn't even see that the SD card is in there. the card reader itself gives me a green light indicating that it can read it though.

and LB, i got some cheap Patriot SD cards. wonder if it's a brand issue

There are many posts on the boards here about people with different makes of mcd's that don't read sd's. the same reports note that no one has had problems with cf's though. Just take it for what it is and keep using cf's.
